SOUTH AFRICA STRENGTHENS CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH ESWATINI AHEAD OF LUJU FESTIVAL

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – The Kingdom of Eswatini continues to strengthen its position as Southern Africa’s premier cultural and lifestyle tourism destination following the official South African launch of the 8th Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival, held in Johannesburg on July 21, 2026, ahead of the festival’s return to House On Fire in Malkerns on 1–2 August 2026.

Hosted at Artistry in Sandton, the launch brought together tourism stakeholders, media, creative industry leaders, entrepreneurs and Standard Bank representatives to celebrate the growing cultural and economic partnership between South Africa and Eswatini. The event reinforced Luju Festival’s role as a catalyst for regional collaboration, tourism growth and creative exchange.

Presented by the producers of the internationally acclaimed MTN Bushfire Festival, Luju has evolved into one of Africa’s leading food, fashion and lifestyle events, attracting thousands of visitors from across the continent and beyond. The festival offers an immersive celebration of African cuisine, fashion, music, design and entrepreneurship under its founding philosophy, “A Return to the African Future.”

This year’s edition will feature a strong South African presence across its music, culinary and fashion programmes. Internationally acclaimed artists including Grammy Award-winning musician Zakes Bantwini, kwaito icon Zola 7, hip-hop star Nasty C, jazz sensation Mandisi Dyantyis, Maskandi legend Shwi Mantombazane, award-winning duo Liquideep, and Amapiano artist TMan Xpress are among the headline acts set to perform in Eswatini.

The festival’s fashion runway will showcase celebrated South African designer Mzukisi Mbane of Imprint South Africa, while renowned chef Mmabatho Molefe and culinary brand Coco & J will headline regional culinary demonstrations inspired by this year’s theme, Nguni Foodways, celebrating indigenous food traditions and shared cultural heritage across Southern Africa.

Festival organisers say the South African launch reflects Luju’s continued investment in strengthening relationships with the country’s creative ecosystem while creating new opportunities for artists, chefs, designers, entrepreneurs and small businesses across the region. The initiative also seeks to expand market access, promote cultural mobility and encourage knowledge exchange among Southern Africa’s creative industries.

For the first time in its history, Luju will fully embrace a two-day immersive festival experience, with organisers expecting more than 10,000 visitors from over 26 countries. The festival continues to position Eswatini as a destination where culture, tourism and creativity intersect, offering visitors authentic African experiences in one of the continent’s most scenic settings.

Beyond entertainment, Luju continues to make a significant contribution to Eswatini’s economy. According to organisers, the 2025 festival generated E2.7 million in sales for 103 SME traders, with 85 percent of participating businesses being local enterprises. Independent research further shows that the wider House On Fire festival ecosystem contributes more than E121 million annually to Eswatini’s economy while supporting over 2,300 jobs, highlighting the growing value of cultural tourism as a driver of inclusive economic development.

As anticipation builds for the 2026 edition, the South African launch has once again positioned Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival as more than a festival, it is a regional platform celebrating African excellence while strengthening tourism, cultural diplomacy and economic collaboration between Eswatini and South Africa.

The Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival will take place on 1–2 August 2026 at the iconic House On Fire in Malkerns, where visitors can expect world-class cuisine, fashion, music and authentic African experiences in the heart of the Kingdom of Eswatini.
