MANZINI – Love, laughter, adventure, teamwork and a healthy dose of friendly competition took centre stage as Khuselwa Farm Adventures in Lugaganeni, Manzini, hosted its first-ever Couples Day Out Retreat, bringing couples together for a memorable day of connection and outdoor experiences.

The day’s adventure began with a 2km hike, giving couples an opportunity to explore the surroundings, enjoy the outdoors and warm up for a full programme of activities. The hike set the tone for a day centred on adventure, teamwork and quality time together.

Following the hike, couples were treated to breakfast, giving them an opportunity to refresh and recharge before continuing with the day’s activities.

The retreat featured a variety of fun and engaging challenges designed to test communication, coordination, creativity, patience and teamwork.

One of the highlights was the hilarious “Engrish” spelling challenge, which put the couples’ spelling skills to the test. While some words proved more difficult than expected, the activity created plenty of laughter and showed that a little friendly competition can add even more fun to a couples’ experience.

The “Find Your Partner” challenge brought another dimension to the retreat, requiring couples to rely on their connection and ability to identify each other in a playful setting.

The fun continued with the Pop the Balloon Challenge and the Fill the Bottle with a Sponge Challenge, with couples bringing plenty of energy, laughter and competitive spirit to the field.

Coordination and patience were tested during the Spoon and Ball Challenge, where participants had to carefully manoeuvre while keeping a ball balanced on a spoon. The activity quickly turned into an exciting competition, with couples cheering each other on and laughing at the inevitable near-misses.

For couples seeking an adrenaline-filled experience, quad biking added an exciting adventure element to the retreat. Participants had the opportunity to get behind the handlebars and experience the thrill of riding through the farm’s outdoor setting, creating yet another memorable moment to share with their partners.

Archery also gave couples the opportunity to take aim and test their focus, precision and concentration. The activity encouraged participants to support and motivate each other while enjoying a different type of outdoor adventure.

After a full day of activities, participants were served lunch, providing an opportunity for everyone to relax, refuel and reflect on the day’s experiences.

Beyond the games and adventure, however, the retreat was ultimately about creating meaningful experiences together.

For many of the participating couples, the day provided an opportunity to reconnect, laugh together, try something different and create lasting memories outside the usual date-day setting.

The Mafutamingi couple, who participated in the retreat, described the experience as enjoyable and memorable. They said they had fun taking part in the games and activities, although some of the challenges proved tricky and tested their skills.

Despite the challenges, the couple said they were happy to have made it through and appreciated the experience. They expressed their gratitude to the organisers for creating a memorable day filled with love, laughter and togetherness, while also indicating that they would love to return to Khuselwa Farm Adventures for another experience.

The success of the first edition demonstrates the growing potential of experience-based tourism in Eswatini, where outdoor destinations can combine adventure, recreation, food and social experiences to attract both local visitors and tourists.

Khuselwa Farm Adventures provided couples with an opportunity to enjoy nature while participating in activities that encouraged interaction, connection and teamwork. From hiking and quad biking to archery and playful competitions, the retreat demonstrated how adventure destinations can create diverse experiences for visitors.

The inclusion of breakfast and lunch also added to the full-day experience, allowing couples to enjoy the retreat without having to worry about meals while they focused on the activities and spending time together.

The first Couples Day Out Retreat ended on a high note, leaving participants with laughter-filled memories, new experiences and, perhaps most importantly, more reasons to enjoy each other’s company.

For Khuselwa Farm Adventures, the successful first edition could mark the beginning of an exciting addition to Eswatini’s growing calendar of experiential tourism activities.
