CAPTAIN ROBERT DLAMINI RETIRES AFTER 38 YEARS CONNECTING ESWATINI TO AFRICA

SIKHUPHE – After 38 remarkable years in the skies, Captain Robert Dlamini made his final landing on July 21, 2026, bringing to a close an illustrious aviation career that helped connect the Kingdom of Eswatini to destinations across Africa while supporting the country’s growing tourism and business sectors.

His retirement marks the end of an extraordinary chapter with Eswatini Air and its predecessor, Royal Swazi Airline, where he began his aviation journey in 1988.

Over nearly four decades, Captain Dlamini flew to more than ten African destinations, including South Africa and Tunisia, accumulating an impressive 20,600 flying hours. Beyond safely transporting thousands of passengers, he played a significant role in enhancing regional connectivity, facilitating trade and business travel, and welcoming international visitors to the Kingdom.

Each flight contributed to strengthening Eswatini’s accessibility as a tourism destination, making it easier for travellers to experience the country’s vibrant cultural heritage, spectacular landscapes, warm hospitality and unique attractions.

Speaking during the event, Board Chairperson Dr. Mdumiseni Dlamini highlighted the airline’s vital role in supporting tourism and economic development by connecting Eswatini to regional destinations and opening the Kingdom to the world.

He noted that the professionalism demonstrated by pilots such as Captain Dlamini has not only enhanced the airline’s reputation but has also strengthened Eswatini’s image as a welcoming, reliable and accessible tourism destination.

The airline’s Director of Maintenance also paid tribute to the retiring captain, commending his unwavering commitment, exemplary professionalism and decades of dedicated service, which helped build a lasting culture of operational excellence.
