MBULUZI – Run WiLD Eswatini 2026, held from September 11 to 12, 2026 has further highlighted the Kingdom’s growing potential as a destination for adventure, outdoor and nature-based tourism.
Hosted at Mbuluzi Game Reserve, the two-day event brought together trail runners, families, supporters and adventure enthusiasts for a weekend that combined trail running, camping, entertainment and time in nature.
More than a running event, Run WiLD offered participants an opportunity to experience Eswatini beyond conventional sightseeing, using sport and outdoor recreation to encourage deeper engagement with the country’s natural landscapes.

A key highlight of this year’s edition was the strong local participation, with approximately 90% of participants coming from Eswatini, while the remaining 10% travelled from South Africa and Mozambique.
Organisers said the strong local turnout was particularly encouraging, reflecting growing interest among Emaswati in exploring destinations within their own country and experiencing local tourism attractions as visitors.
The event attracted approximately 78 Full Weekend Pass participants and more than 80 Saturday Run & Go entries, in addition to supporters and children who participated in activities throughout the weekend. Organisers noted significant growth in participation compared with previous editions.

Mbuluzi Game Reserve provided a fitting setting for the event, with its scenic landscapes, varied terrain, wildlife and natural surroundings adding to the overall experience. Participants were able to combine trail running with camping, socialising, family time and nature-based activities.
The event also demonstrated the potential of adventure tourism to encourage visitors to explore multiple destinations. Some runners from outside Eswatini extended their stays beyond Mbuluzi, travelling to Hlane Royal National Park for game drives and further exploration.
This movement between destinations highlights how sporting and adventure events can contribute to longer visitor stays while encouraging travellers to experience more of what Eswatini has to offer.

Run WiLD’s tourism contribution also extends to businesses across the wider tourism value chain. Visitors require accommodation, transport, food and other services, creating opportunities for tourism establishments and supporting businesses. At the same time, events such as Run WiLD provide a platform for showcasing Eswatini’s landscapes and experience-based tourism offerings to regional visitors.
The 2026 edition was supported by main sponsor Oracle Insure, alongside Mbuluzi Game Reserve, Umbuluzi Valley Sales, Logico Couriers, Dixies, Spotted Horse, Umoba, Xtreme Trading and Oshee, among other partners and service providers.

Looking ahead, organisers aim to grow Run WiLD sustainably by strengthening regional and international participation, improving logistics and route experiences, and expanding entertainment and family activities.
With its combination of adventure, nature, community and sport, Run WiLD is demonstrating how events can contribute to destination promotion and domestic tourism while creating opportunities for visitors to experience Eswatini from a different perspective.
