By Tlalane Dlamini

MPUMALANGA – The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is encouraging visitors attending the National Public Servants Sports and Cultural Events (NPSSCE) to extend their stay and explore the province’s diverse tourism attractions.

Scheduled for 16 to 17 October 2026, the event is expected to attract sports tourists from across South Africa to Mpumalanga, also known as the Place of the Rising Sun.

Hosted by the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, the gathering is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the province’s tourism economy, with accommodation establishments in the Lowveld already reporting high demand.

Restaurants, shopping malls, entertainment venues, transport operators and small businesses are also expected to benefit from increased visitor spending during the event.

MTPA Acting Chief Executive Officer Pamella Ntuli has urged participants to take advantage of their visit by discovering more of what the province has to offer beyond the sporting and cultural activities.

“We warmly welcome all sports tourists to Mpumalanga and encourage them to enjoy the sporting and cultural activities while taking time to explore our beautiful province. Mpumalanga offers unforgettable tourism experiences, and we remain committed to ensuring that our visitors enjoy a safe and memorable stay,” said Ntuli.

The agency has also called on Mpumalanga residents to demonstrate the province’s renowned hospitality and spirit of Ubuntu by welcoming visitors and assisting them where necessary.

Tourists requiring assistance during their stay can contact the MTPA on 013 755 1988.

The agency wished all participants and visitors successful sporting and cultural events, while encouraging them to make the most of their time in the province.

The call highlights the opportunity for major sporting and cultural gatherings to stimulate tourism, support local businesses and encourage visitors to experience more destinations within the region.
