VELEMISENI BRINGS ESWATINI SOUL TO MOAFEST

Singer to debut new music alongside Karyn White

MBABANE – Celebrated African soul singer Velemiseni Ndzimandze is preparing to fly Eswatini’s flag at the inaugural MOAFEST Divas in Mozambique, marking another major milestone in her growing international career.

The acclaimed vocalist will be the only Eswatini singer on the line-up, sharing the stage with legendary US R&B singer Karyn White, South African stars Kelly Khumalo and Mozambican powerhouse Lizha James, and other leading African artists.

Eswatini will also be represented by DJ Cup, born Zama Welcome Maseko, who will be the kingdom’s only DJ performing at the festival on Saturday.

For Velemiseni, the invitation is both a surprise and a career-defining opportunity.

“Being selected as the only Swazi singer at MOAFEST was honestly a surprise, but such a career-affirming moment because I have never performed in Mozambique as a solo artist,” she said.

The booking comes almost a year after her appearance at the prestigious Standard Bank Joy of Jazz in South Africa, with the singer noting that September is becoming a significant month in her career.

“This time last year we were gearing up to perform at Joy of Jazz Festival. Now we are preparing for another major international festival, and I am excited to share our unique sound with our neighbours.”

She said representing Eswatini internationally was a source of immense pride.

“It means a great deal to represent Eswatini on such a great platform. I feel that as an African artist, I am being raised to the global stage, and we are so ready.”

Performing alongside Karyn White is another highlight for Velemiseni, who grew up listening to the American R&B icon’s music.

“Karyn White is one of those musical icons whose music we enjoyed growing up. Her songs paint memories of my childhood, and she has contributed to my musical journey. It is really special to be called to share the stage with such amazing artists.”

Velemiseni’s performance will blend African soul, guitar-driven sounds and a lively stage presence. She will also debut a brand-new song, giving festival-goers their first taste of her latest music.

“I am brewing some new music, and I cannot wait to debut one of those songs on the MOAFEST stage.”

She has urged emaSwati to travel to Mozambique and show their support.

“Swazi supporters should definitely make the trip. We must see those Swazi flags in the crowd.”

Beyond MOAFEST, Velemiseni hopes to expand her African collaborations, including working with Kelly Khumalo and Mozambican artists, while exploring new languages, genres and instruments.

“Our music is about hope, love and growth. I want people to feel seen and understood.”
