What began as a modest gathering of farmers and local producers has blossomed into one of Eswatini’s most vibrant lifestyle experiences. The Ezulwini Farmer’s Market, hosted at Legends SHARED, has steadily grown into a beloved monthly event that draws both locals and visitors seeking authentic, locally made products and a relaxed social atmosphere.

From 26 Vendors to a Thriving Monthly Experience

The market first launched in March 2023 as a bi-monthly event featuring just 26 vendors. Its founders, including Emagodomane Farm, recognised a gap in the region, a centrally located marketplace that could serve communities across Mbabane, Malkerns, Matsapha, and Manzini.

With Legends SHARED providing the ideal setting, the initiative quickly gained traction. Today, the market has evolved into a monthly Saturday outing, often hosting up to 80 stalls and averaging around 60 vendors depending on the weather.

A Market That Became a Movement

Over time, the Ezulwini Farmer’s Market has transformed from a traditional farmers’ market into a dynamic lifestyle event. With more than 500 vendors approved and over 430 having participated at least once, the diversity of offerings continues to expand.

Shoppers can expect a consistent core of around 15 regular vendors, alongside a rotating selection of new stalls at each market. This ever-changing mix keeps the experience fresh and engaging.

Visitors don’t just shop, they linger. Families and friends gather beneath the shade of jacaranda trees, enjoying the relaxed environment, good food, and meaningful connections with local producers.

A major milestone came in 2024, when the market earned second place in the Lifestyle category at the Eswatini Consumers’ Choice Awards 2024. This recognition significantly boosted its visibility, leading to increased media attention and a growing reputation nationwide.

Championing Local and Sustainable Living

At its core, the market is built on the values of sustainability and supporting local enterprise. Every vendor must apply to participate, and only products that are “Made in Eswatini” on a small scale are approved.

This ensures that visitors experience authentic, locally crafted goods without competition from mass-produced or imported items.

Eco-conscious practices are also encouraged. Vendors are urged to use biodegradable packaging, while a refund system for glass bottles and jars promotes reuse. Shoppers are reminded to bring their own reusable bags, reinforcing a shared commitment to reducing waste.

These efforts not only support the environment but also create a space where small businesses can thrive and connect directly with customers who value quality and authenticity.

The upcoming market promises an exciting mix of offerings for all ages. Visitors can browse a wide selection of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables, compost, plants, and homemade farm products. There will also be kombucha, artisan jams, handcrafted jewellery, crochet fashion, beauty products, and much more.
