A vibrant fusion of culinary artistry, cultural pride, and entrepreneurial spirit is set to take centre stage in Manzini this on Friday, as Gmisa Art & Catering College prepares to host its annual Chefs Culture Day at Somhlolo Park.
Gmisa Art & Catering College will host the much-anticipated event on Friday, 17 April 2026, bringing together students, local traders, and members of the public for a dynamic half-day celebration of food, fashion, and heritage.
Running from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the event will showcase the practical skills of the college’s culinary students, complemented by displays of traditional Swati attire and artisanal craftsmanship. Organisers say the initiative highlights the important link between modern culinary training and the cultural heritage that continues to shape it.
The college’s Public Relations Officer and Supervisor, Bawelile Nkosi, said the event reflects Gmisa’s broader educational philosophy.
“Our students do not only learn to cook; they learn to carry culture forward. This event is about showing the Kingdom what that looks like in practice,” she said.
Nkosi added that the decision to open market stalls to external vendors was intentional, aimed at supporting small businesses and strengthening the Made in Eswatini movement.
Stall applications are currently open under two categories: traditional attire and traditional food. Interested participants are encouraged to apply early, as space is limited.
The event forms part of Eswatini’s growing calendar of cultural tourism activities, as the country continues to position itself as a destination for authentic local experiences. It also comes ahead of a busy cultural season, including the upcoming MTN Bushfire Festival in May.
For Gmisa, Chefs Culture Day has become a key highlight on its annual calendar, offering a platform to showcase the college’s training standards while contributing meaningfully to the cultural life of Manzini.
