ETA grading programme highlights the importance of quality assurance, service excellence and improved guest experiences
By Tlalane Dlamini
Phumula Farm Guest House has been awarded a four-star rating under the Guest House category, reflecting its verified accommodation standard and commitment to service excellence as Eswatini strengthens quality assurance across its tourism industry.
The Shiselweni-based establishment received its grading plaque and certificate from the Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) on 19 October 2026 as part of the National Grading Programme, which seeks to promote recognised standards across the country’s accommodation sector.
The grading places Phumula Farm Guest House among establishments participating in the formal assessment of accommodation quality, giving travellers greater confidence when selecting places to stay in Eswatini.
According to the ETA, the grading programme is designed to ensure that accommodation establishments uphold recognised standards and continuously improve the guest experience. The authority emphasises that a thriving tourism economy depends on robust quality assurance, with visitors needing confidence in the standard of accommodation available.

For Phumula Farm Guest House, maintaining these standards has been a key focus. Antonet Reid of the establishment said the team had worked hard to uphold the expected level of tourism quality.
“We’ve worked very hard keeping up the standard of tourism,” Reid said, describing the four-star grading as an important milestone for the establishment and the country’s tourism sector.
She added that the recognition meant a great deal to the team, particularly because of the work invested in maintaining standards.
“This means so much to us, uplifting the country and tourism in Eswatini. This is a proud moment for Phumula,” she said.
Facilities supporting the guest experience
Beyond its formal grading, Phumula Farm Guest House offers accommodation and facilities aimed at meeting different visitor needs. Its en-suite rooms provide a place for travellers to stay, while its swimming pool, garden spaces, lapa and braai areas offer opportunities for relaxation and social gatherings.
The establishment also provides conference and event facilities, broadening its appeal to visitors travelling for business, meetings, family occasions and leisure.
These facilities contribute to its hospitality offering in the Shiselweni Region, where accommodation providers play a role in encouraging visitors to explore destinations beyond Eswatini’s main tourism centres.

While the available grading announcement confirms Phumula’s four-star status, the ETA has not detailed the individual assessment scores or specific criteria the establishment met. Its four-star rating is therefore the formal indicator of its graded accommodation standard, rather than a basis for attributing unverified assessment results to particular facilities.
Strengthening tourism quality in Eswatini
The National Grading Programme operates under the Grading of Accommodation Establishments Regulations, 2012, enacted in terms of Section 27 of the Eswatini Tourism Authority Act, 2001.
According to the ETA, although participation in grading is voluntary, the process is supported by a legal framework intended to provide a structured and fair mechanism for improving standards across the hospitality industry.
During the plaque handover, ETA Chief Executive Officer Vusie Norman Dlamini highlighted the importance of quality assurance in building Eswatini’s reputation as a competitive international destination. The authority also acknowledged the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs for prioritising the formalisation of hospitality standards.
For accommodation establishments such as Phumula Farm Guest House, grading provides an opportunity to demonstrate their assessed standard while contributing to a more consistent visitor experience across the country.
As Eswatini continues to develop its tourism offering, establishments that participate in recognised grading processes help strengthen confidence in the accommodation sector. Phumula’s four-star classification places it within this national effort to support service excellence, improve guest experiences and enhance the country’s appeal to domestic and international travellers.
