MAKOTI FESTIVAL SET TO ELECTRIFY ESWATINI MAY DAY LONG WEEKEND

The Kingdom of Eswatini is about to turn up the volume. In the past week, the Makoti Festival team has been on the road crossing into Mozambique and Mpumalanga, South Africa on a high-energy regional activation tour designed to build excitement, forge partnerships, and personally invite neighbouring communities to be part of this landmark event.

The cross-border activation saw the Makoti Festival team engage tourism operators, entertainment promoters, lifestyle media, and potential festival-goers in both territories. In Mozambique, the team connected with stakeholders in key urban centres, sparking interest in the festival as a prime cross-border travel destination for the May 2 public holiday weekend. In Mpumalanga, a province with deep cultural and economic ties to Eswatini the reception was equally enthusiastic, with South African audiences responding warmly to the festival’s music and arts lifestyle proposition.

For Festival Director Thembinkosi Mthethwa, hitting the road was non-negotiable.

“We didn’t want to just announce the festival from behind a screen. We wanted to go to the people, look them in the eye and say, this is something you need to experience in person. Eswatini is ready to host the region, and the Makoti Festival is our invitation”, he said.

The Makoti team has been deliberate in positioning the Makoti Festival not merely as a one-day event, but as a cornerstone of Eswatini’s emerging creative economy and a catalyst for regional tourism.
