GMISA Chefs Culture Day 2026 Marks Second Year

The GMISA Catering and Decor Company celebrated an important milestone last Friday, April 17, 2026 as it hosted the second edition of its Chefs Culture Day 2026 at Somhlolo Park, one of Manzini’s well-known tourist attractions.

The colourful event brought together culture, heritage, food, and national pride in a lively celebration that impressed all who attended.

Students from GMISA took centre stage as they appeared in elegant emaSwati traditional attire, proudly showcasing the customs and traditions of the Kingdom of Eswatini. Their participation reflected the institution’s strong commitment to preserving and promoting Swati culture and identity.

Umtsimba Performance Captivates Guests

One of the standout moments of the day was the students’ presentation of Umtsimba, the traditional Swati wedding ceremony.

The graceful performance, rich with rhythm, traditional dress, and cultural symbolism, captivated the audience and highlighted the beauty and depth of Eswatini’s living heritage.

Distinguished Guests Praise the Initiative

The celebration attracted notable guests who commended GMISA for its efforts.

Babukisi Founder and Director, Thobejane Magagula, addressed attendees and emphasised the importance of order, discipline, and respect for tradition within Eswatini culture.

Also present was Stanley Dlamini, Chief Executive Officer of the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, who applauded GMISA for its dedication to promoting local culture and preserving the Siswati language.

A Vision Grounded in Heritage

GMISA Director, Gcebile Mbuyisa, reflected on the journey of the event, noting with pride that Chefs Culture Day has now entered its second year.

She said the choice of Somhlolo Park as the venue was intentional, as it is both a recognised tourism site and a fitting location for celebrating what makes Eswatini unique.

Guests also enjoyed a variety of delicious Swazi traditional dishes, adding an authentic culinary experience to the day’s festivities.
