Taiwan Day in Eswatini brought together culture, cuisine, music, fashion and entertainment in a celebration of friendship and cultural exchange, highlighting the shared values that connect the people of Taiwan and Eswatini.
Speaking during the event, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Eswatini, Ching-Lin Tsuei, said the celebration was more than a cultural showcase, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between the two peoples.

After four years in Eswatini, the Ambassador noted the similarities between the two communities, particularly their appreciation for family, community and friendship. He expressed hope that guests would experience the spirit of Taiwan through its traditions, food, martial arts, fashion and music, while embracing new ideas and opportunities.
Kathy Shu-Kai Liu, Commissioner of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, reflected on the idea behind bringing people together through food, explaining that friendship often begins with simple interactions, such as sharing a meal and engaging in conversation, before growing into meaningful connections.
She emphasised that relations between Taiwan and Eswatini extend beyond official meetings, noting that people-to-people connections play an important role in strengthening ties between the two sides.

Liu also highlighted the event’s inclusive approach to Asian culture, with food stalls offering a variety of cuisines, including Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Vietnamese and Indian dishes. She encouraged attendees to explore the different offerings and experience the diversity of Asian cultures.
Ezulwini Chief Sifiso Mashampu Khumalo, attending Taiwan Day for the first time, expressed appreciation to the organisers for the invitation, noting that the celebration offered an opportunity to experience Taiwanese life and culture through music, dance and food.

He highlighted the universal power of cultural expression, observing that music can cross borders without a passport, while food brings people together around one table.
Through its vibrant programme, Taiwan Day provided a platform for cultural appreciation, community engagement and people-to-people interaction, reinforcing the spirit of friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini.
