TAIWAN DAY ESWATINI 2026: A CELEBRATION OF FRIENDSHIP, CULTURE AND COMMUNITY

Eswatini is set to celebrate the friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini with Taiwan Day 2026, a full-day cultural festival taking place on Saturday, 3 October 2026 at The Crescent Shopping Mall in Ezulwini.

Running from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the free public event will bring together Taiwanese, Asian and local cultural experiences through food, music, fashion, entertainment and community activities under the theme “Celebrating Friendship, Culture and Community”, with the message “Brighter Friendships, A Brighter Tomorrow.”

The festival builds on the success of the Asian Food Fair, which has attracted public interest over the past three years, expanding the concept into a broader celebration of culture and cooperation between Taiwan and Eswatini.

The programme begins at noon with an Opening Ceremony featuring a speech by the Ambassador and performances by ACC Drums. Visitors can then enjoy food stalls, exhibitions and cultural activities throughout the afternoon, including Kung Fu acts, lion dancing, K-Pop dancing and Asian cooking demonstrations.

The evening highlight will be a Fashion Show at 6:00 PM, featuring traditional Asian wear and creations by Eswatini designers. After the fashion show, the celebration will continue with dancing and DJ entertainment until 9:00 PM.

FRIENDSHIP TAKES THE RUNWAY

Curated by fashion stylist and creative show coordinator Vanessa Gwebu, the fashion showcase will explore friendship, cultural connection and creative exchange.

Eswatini designers will participate in two stages. They will first showcase selected pieces from their previous collections, allowing audiences to experience their established creative identities. This will be followed by a competition segment featuring original garments created specifically for the Taiwan Day fashion challenge.

Designers have been challenged to draw inspiration from Taiwan and Asian culture, including colours, patterns, nature, textiles and traditional forms, while remaining true to their individual design identities.

Gwebu says the concept is intended to create a meeting point between cultures rather than simply presenting one culture to another.

The competition will give local designers, models and creatives an opportunity to engage with Taiwanese culture and interpret it through their own creative language.

“Being different does not mean being disconnected,” Gwebu says, highlighting the importance of approaching cultural differences with curiosity and openness.

A CELEBRATION FOR EVERYONE

With free entry, Taiwan Day Eswatini 2026 will offer residents and visitors an opportunity to experience Asian and local food, fashion, music, dance, martial arts and cultural exhibitions while highlighting the longstanding relationship and cooperation between Taiwan and Eswatini.

The event is presented in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Eswatini and Luxy Garden Restaurant, under the message “Taiwan – Eswatini: Stronger Together.”
