ESWATINI SENDS DIVERSE DELEGATION TO AFRICA’S TRAVEL INDABA

BY SAMU NHLABATSI

As Africa’s tourism industry converges on the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban from May 11 to 14 , 2026, the Kingdom of Eswatini will not merely be present at Africa’s Travel Indaba (ATI). It will be making a statement.

Organised under the stewardship of the Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA), the Kingdom’s delegation to ATI 2026 is among the most diverse and ambitious it has ever assembled, bringing together 20 industry players spanning luxury hospitality, adventure tourism, civil aviation, and cultural heritage. From the iconic MTN Bushfire at Malandela’s Lifestyle to the wildlife-rich Big Game Parks; from Nkonyeni Lodge and Golf Estate to the community-rooted All Out Africa Adventure Tours, Eswatini arrives in Durban as a destination with layers, with depth, and with a compelling story to tell.

A Pavilion, A Platform, A Promise

At the heart of Eswatini’s ATI presence is the ETA-curated Destination Pavilion, a carefully designed sensory environment that blends traditional craft, digital landscape displays and business meeting spaces. It is not simply a stand at a trade show. It is a curated invitation to experience the Kingdom.

The ETA Head of Marketing Chunky Mdluli – Dlamini captured this ambition in a statement ahead of the delegation’s departure;

“Eswatini is not a secret we intend to keep. Africa’s Travel Indaba gives us the platform to tell the world what those who have visited already know: that this Kingdom offers an authenticity, a warmth and a richness of experience that is rare and extraordinary. We go to Durban not just to exhibit, but to open doors, forge lasting partnerships, and position Eswatini firmly on the itineraries of discerning travellers everywhere.”

It is the kind of confidence that is earned. Eswatini’s participation at ATI comes on the back of growing momentum, from the success of regional familiarisation tours across Shiselweni and Lubombo, to its deepening profile as a partner destination within the celebrated Triland Route connecting Mozambique’s beaches, Mpumalanga’s wildlife, and Eswatini’s cultural heartland.

Beyond the Big Five

While wildlife remains a significant draw, the 2026 delegation is leaning into a broader, richer narrative. Safety. Accessibility. Sustainability. Community. These are the values Eswatini is presenting to international buyers from Europe, North America and Asia, buyers who increasingly seek authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences over the predictable and the packaged.

The Emaswati people are themselves a selling point, their warmth and hospitality forming an invisible thread through every lodge stay, guided tour and cultural encounter. The recent 3rd International Responsible Tourism Conference held in Piggs Peak adds further credibility to Eswatini’s positioning as a destination that takes the relationship between tourism and community seriously.

Small SMEs, Big Stakes

One of the most meaningful dimensions of the ETA’s role at ATI is its commitment to elevating local small and medium enterprises. By subsidising participation and coordinating logistics for smaller operators and boutique establishments, the ETA ensures that the economic rewards of international tourism visibility reach beyond the headline names and into the communities that make Eswatini what it is.

Hotels such as Happy Valley Hotel, Royal Villas Hotel, Foresters Arms Hotel, SibaneSami Hotel, Sibebe Resort, Hilton Garden Inn, Mountain View International Hotel, Mantenga Lodge, Piggs Peak Hotel, The George Hotel, Lidwala Lodge, Wide Horizons Mountain Retreat and Global Village Guest House all form part of a delegation that reflects the true breadth of Eswatini’s hospitality landscape.

A Kingdom Ready for the World

As autumn settles over Southern Africa and the post-Easter travel calendar opens up, Eswatini’s presence at ATI 2026 is perfectly timed. The trade show serves as a powerful launchpad for the Kingdom’s autumn, winter and spring campaigns, sustaining the momentum of arrivals through the second half of the year.

For international buyers seated across the table at the Eswatini Pavilion in Durban, the invitation is clear: come and find your next great adventure in the heart of a Royal Kingdom that has been waiting, graciously and patiently, to show the world exactly what it has to offer.
